Every year there's a week or two when I stop whatever I'm carrying and just stand in the field.
This is that week. The forty acres of native Ohio wildflowers we planted are at their full height and full color right now — the kind of dense, humming, shoulder-high bloom that you can't photograph well enough to do it justice, though I keep trying. Bees everywhere. Goldfinches working the seed heads. That particular smell of warm prairie in summer that I can never describe to anyone who hasn't stood in it. If you've toured with us in April, you've seen this land at its quietest. I promise you it is a different property in July.
